HTML 4.01 Starters

I always keep a bank of snippets and starter files that I can quickly and easily refer back to and use as reference. Actually I have a database of snippets/starters that is nearing around 150 modular or reusable pieces of code stored in a great piece of software called Snippets.

Most people probably utilize the pre-made templates provided by Dreamweaver but what if I am on a machine that doesn’t have Dreamweaver? Anyway, cutting to the chase, the following are all of the basic HTML Starters that I like to have close by just in case.

HTML 4.01 Transitional

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
<meta name="description" content="Page Description" />
<meta name="keywords" content="Keywords" />
<meta name="Author" content="Chad M. Ostroff, chad.ostroff@mac.com" />
<title>Page Title</title>
</head>

<body>
<p>Page Content Goes Here</p>
</body>
</html>

HTML 4.01 Strict

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
   "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">

<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8">
<meta name="description" content="Page Description" />
<meta name="keywords" content="Keywords" />
<meta name="Author" content="Chad M. Ostroff, chad.ostroff@mac.com" />
<title>Page Title</title>
</head>
<body>
<p>Page Content Goes Here</p>
</body>
</html>
